In the last year a lot more robo and telemarketing calls are going to cellphones. There are several things you can do to reduce these nuisance calls.
- Most effective – install an app like Call Protect. This app is free for AT&T users and actively warns you a call is a telemarketer or spam.
- Verizon takes a different approach that doesn’t require an app but requires activation.
- Register your number on the National Do Not Call list. This works for companies that follow the rules and check the list before calling. Unfortunately, many companies ignore the list as penalties are limited.
- Least effective – Block the number using your cellphones built-in blocker. Since this is based on the caller’s phone number which may be spoofed or not re-used, this doesn’t suppress to many callers.
