CAPTAIN JAMES PEARSON, the eldest son of Thomas Pearson, by his wifeHannah, daughter of John Blunston, Jr., and grand-daughter of Hon. JohnBlunston many years a member of the Provincial Council of Pennsylvania,was born at Darby, near Philadelphia, 1 November, 1735, and died atPhiladelphia, 20 August, 1813. A master carpenter and builder and also aprominent surveyor, he was for twenty-seven years one of the managers ofthe Carpenters' Company, and a member of the Committee of thatorganization under whose direction the famous Carpenters' Hall was built.In 1782 he was appointed one of the Surveyors of Philadelphia, andretained this position until his death. On 3 June, 1769, he was one ofthe Committee to assist David Rittenhouse in taking the transit of Venusand in 1780, he was commissioned Captain of the Fourth Company,Philadelphia Artillery Battalion. His will, dated 17 August, 1813, namedwife Susanna and children Henry Paschall Pearson, Mary Pearson, JaneSerrill, Hannah Pearson, James Hart Pearson, Anna Pearson, Susanna Powersand Martha B. Pearson. His other children has doubtless died previously.Eight children of the second marriage are mentioned in the text. Hemarried, first, 18 October, 1758, Mary, daughter of Dr. John and FrancesPaschall of Darby, who died 25 January, 1764. His second marriage, 6October, 1767, was to Susanna, daughter of Thomas Hart by his wife MaryCombs. Children by first wife: i. John Paschall Pearson, buried 24January, 1764. ii. Henry Paschall Pearson. Issue by second wife: iii.Thomas Pearson. born 26 July, 1768; died young. iv. Mary Pearson, born 8March, 1770. v. Sarah Pearson, born 23 December, 1773. vi.
